2nd meeting of the intersessional process for the consideration of the Strategic approach to international chemicals management and sound management of chemicals and waste for the period after 2020

Belarus is represented by the representatives of the republican unitary enterprise «Scientific practical centre of hygiene», the director Sychik Sergey and the junior researcher of the laboratory of preventive and ecological toxicology Marina Vasil’eva take part in the 2nd session of the intersessional process for the consideration of the Strategic approach to international chemicals management and sound management of chemicals and waste for the period after 2020.

The meeting takes place from 13 to 15 March 2018 in Stockholm, Sweden. More than 250 representatives of governments of different countries, UN agencies, international organizations and non-governmental organizations participate in the meeting.

The Strategic approach to international chemicals management is a voluntary policy framework to promote the sound management of chemicals throughout their life cycle and, in particular, to achieve the goal of Johannesburg in 2002: «By 2020, chemicals are produced and used to minimize significant adverse effects on human health and environment». This voluntary process of international cooperation negates international and national policies, as chemicals have a significant local impact. It also integrates the responsibilities and capabilities of all relevant stakeholders, including governments, industry and civil society.
